The Region
Liguria is situated immediately east of the French border in Italy and has its own microclimate shielded by the Alps to its northern border and the Mediterranean to its southern border. The region has many beautiful seaside towns including the bustling Arma Di Taggia (20 mins drive from our properties) and the much larger town of San Remo (a further 5 km away) with its magnificent marina, hotels, casino, and shops. Whale watching trips are popular from San Remo too.
All the coastal beaches have golden sand and blue seas, where the bathing is safe and the locals very friendly.
The picturesque villages offer interesting frescoes in medieval churches (often providing free concerts) and some magnificent local walks, some of them along the beautiful Argentina valley and river which runs through Badalucco and Montalto villages.
There are many festivals throughout the summer and Liguria is a well known flower growing area which exports all over the world. The region is also popular with on and off road cyclists. There is even a stage of the historic car rally championships running through the surrounding hills and villages. There are tennis courts a golf course and water park for the more active.
There are many excellent local restaurants suitable for all ages, including a Michelin 3 star in Arma Di Taggia, as well as an abundance of shops and supermarkets where you can buy almost anything.
Easy access to Sardinia and Corsica is possible from the ancient ferry port of Imperia, just 30 minutes away. Genoa and Nice airports are between 1 and 2 hours away and can be reached either by motorway or rail. Skiing in the beautiful resort of Limone Piemonte is just 2 hrs drive or train ride away.
This is a beautiful Italian region with stunning views, traditional facilities and great accessibility by rail, sea or air. |
